Marin of Koholint

I LOVE THIS COSTUME. It's so comfortable! XD I wanted to take a moment to talk about everything that went into this costume. :3 First the wig is my first time doing a lacefront from scratch. 30 hours later, I had a much more natural looking hairline than what the wig had started with. The dress is 100% Japanese sandwashed rayon (re: THE BEST FABRIC IN EXISTENCE LOL). It's so soft and drapes beautifully. X3 I had to strip the color of this fabric, and redye it, but it was so so so worth it in the end. All the trouble I went through for this dress was worth it. XD;

When deciding on the method of making the trim, I was a bit baffled. I know, lolsimplecostume, but I really wanted the method to reflect Marin's background and personality. I felt that she wouldn't wear anything with applique or fancy embroidery, nor would simply painting the designs on suffice. So I ended up coming up with my own method of resist dyeing with diluted textile paints. All in all, I really like how it came out, and I feel it really suits Marin. The shoes are 100% leather, save for the sole which I stole from some flipflops, and the flower in my hair I purchased from a bouquet company online, cut it from its stem, and stuck a pin on it lol. The pendant stone is cast from epoxy resin (mold and model made from scratch by me), and the stone setting is made from pluffy (ultra lightweight polymer clay).

I had started building her harp, but it's still in progress. My plan is to make it fully functional (I actually play the harp, but since I moved to Milwaukee, I no longer have access to one to practice on, so I figure making this a real harp will help me recover any technique I've lost). It's going to have 22 strings, slanted to follow the shape of a real harp's sound curve. I just have to wait until I have enough money before I can purchase real harp strings and pins. So excited though. I'm just scared to death to work on it sometimes. XD;;;

Lol every costume is a new adventure. XD
