Kiriban Prize - Fairy Ocarina by akuriko Kiriban Prize - Fairy Ocarina by akuriko
Here is the prize for my 100,000 Kiriban winner *SasukeSmilesScareMe. My first tuned Fairy Ocarina. :D I plan to make several more of these for sale. I'll be selling them for $89 plus S&H. Details about my ocarinas:

-They have seven holes
-They have a one octave range, starting at G one octave above middle C
-They are tuned in the key of G Major
-They are "in tune with themselves" meaning they aren't "concert tuned." Any instrument played in accompaniment with these ocarinas will need to be tuned to the ocarina. At least, until I can achieve concert intonation. ^ ^;
-They are made from Sculpey III polymer clay.
-A sound sample can be found here: [link]

Right now, I am making them as I receive orders. So if you're interested, send me a note. =) Be aware that it will be about 1 - 3 business days before it is shipped, so I have time to make them. =)

Oooooooh I was looking at your sheet music and at the ocarina and wondering "Why.... why is this thing so different looking than mine??" but that makes perfect sense now.
Gosh this is beautiful!

They've been for sale for a pretty long time now. I've just been doing them by order though because I got pretty busy in the fall last year. Gonna try to open a shop for them pretty soon.

You should make a fairy ocarina with fairy designs on it, that would be cool. But the pink and green is neat and different too, i like it!

If this is made from polymer clay, how did you make it so shiny? It looks really cool!!

Amazing, such an elegant design - and made out of polymer-clay? We just started out working with 'real' clay after giving polymer-clay a try. The result of the polymer-clay ones was...... horrible. Looked all ugly and tuning would have been impossible, so I really admire this work of yours - it's a gem :) And it has your very own fingering-system?

Yeah, it took me a really long time to get it to work with polymer clay, but eventually it paid off (I assume it is much easier to make it out of regular clay, but I had no access to a kiln, so it was really my only option lol). Tuning was definitely the most difficult part. >< It's sort of my own fingering system. It's inspired by the fingering system I found in an ocarina book for 10 hole ocarinas. Since I couldn't find any other reversed ocarinas (with the body facing to the left, like in ocarina of time and other Zelda games), this was pretty much the only system that I've found works. ^ ^;

Hmmm, yeah, looking back on how I tune my regular clay ocarinas I gotta say that tuning must be really tricky with polymer-clay! And yes, we are VERY LUCKY to have a friend who owns a kiln - but I am glad you mastered polymer-clay because, once again, I love the looks of this ocarina and it sounds beautifully as well :)

Hmmm, but from my experience you can put your holes pretty much wherever you want, so I'd encourage experimenting, but maybe it's a completely different story with polymer-clay. And anyway, you hole-placement adds to the look :)

Yeah, you can put holes anywhere with polymer clay too, but I placed the holes where they are for the sake of accuracy to the game art. ^ ^

I'm wondering, are you also planning to make a ten-hole version with the mouthpiece on the left side someday?

Actually, my goal with these ocarinas is to make them as accurate to the game as possible, so I had no plans to make a Fairy Ocarina with the mouth piece on the left, but I do want to try making nine hole Fairy Ocarinas. I do plan on making other LoZ ocarinas from other games besides OoT that do have the mouthpiece on the left though. For example, the Link's Awakening ocarina is a 12 hole with the mouth piece on the left. That's not to say I couldn't do a special order for you if you really want a ten hole Fairy. =)

Well, I'd say you certainly reached your goal with the Fairy Ocarina! :)

I already assumed your priority is to focus on accurateness and authenticity to make stunning replicas like this one. Of course, I appreciate that a lot! I just wanted to ask, because I own and play mainly 10 and 12 hole transverse ocarinas and I'm used to that fingering.
Maybe you could make a video with your Fairy, so people can see how it works ^^

Your ideas concerning the other Zelda ocarinas sound great! I'm very curious how the final LA ocarina will turn out.
